Carnival UK awarded high accolade from Port of Lisbon
Carnival UK & P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow accepted the prestigious Excellence Award in Community Engagement from the Port of Lisbon at this year’s Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami. The award recognizes a number of initiatives including donations of items from on board its fleet including furniture and clothes as well as the completion of three beach cleans which resulted in the collection of over 70 kilograms (≈167 pounds) of trash from the beaches in Alges, near Lisbon.
Upon presentation of the award the Port representative said: “The Excellence Award in Community Engagement award granted to Carnival UK recognizes the consistent work P&O Cruises and Cunard have carried out in Lisbon, where the company has stood out for its active involvement with the local community within the scope of cruise operations.
“Through concrete initiatives, local partnerships and a responsible and collaborative approach, Carnival UK has contributed to creating value for the city, clearly distinguishing itself among different operators and demonstrating that cruise activity can be aligned with a positive and lasting impact on the community.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Carnival UK for its availability and commitment and I hope that over the coming year we will be able to further strengthen our partnership through additional initiatives.”
Carnival UK & P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “We are delighted to accept this award on behalf of colleagues on shore and on ship and especially those who gave their time to the beach cleans. These are important projects which serve to preserve the beauty and heritage of Lisbon for the benefit of our P&O Cruises and Cunard guests as well as the wider local community.
“I would also like to thank our partners in Lisbon who assist with our activities and offer such ongoing support. These include Blue Flag, Entrajuda and of course the Port of Lisbon Authority.
“Lisbon is a city which is well-loved by our guests and we look forward to working together with port officials for many years to come.”
