WISTA celebrates its Golden Jubilee at the House of Lords

Panel discussion at WISTA UK's 50th anniversary event, featuring Carnival UK representatives.

Recently, the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) in the United Kingdom celebrated its Golden Jubilee at the House of Lords in England, marking five decades of empowering women in the maritime sector.

The event featured a series of panels, including a session on seafarers’ rights and featuring representatives from Carnival Corporation & plc’s very own Women’s Officer Network (W.O.N.), Captain Louise Sara and Staff Captain Martel Fursdon. The panel covered a range of topics, from evolving workplace dynamics as more women pursue maritime careers to championing personal performance for career advancement.

During a WISTA UK-hosted event at the House of Commons recognizing the Isle of Man Maritime region’s pioneering role in women’s rights (granting women the right to vote in 1881) Captain Louise Sara was awarded the Merchant Navy Medal given to those who have demonstrated superior service in the UK’s Merchant Navy or fishing fleets.

WISTA UK is a professional network that promotes the advancement of women in the maritime industry, connecting women globally across shipping, trade and logistics sectors, and providing a platform for networking, career development and leadership opportunities.
