Stuart Subotnick

Stu has served on the Board of Directors of Carnival Corporation since 1987 and on the Board of Directors of Carnival plc since 2003. In this role, he serves as chair of the Nominating & Governance Committees, as well as a member of the Audit Committees and Compliance Committees.
Stu’s qualifications to serve on the Boards include his significant experience in financing, investing and corporate transactions which strengthen our Boards’ ability to effectively oversee our financial and capital allocation risks and strategies.
Stu brings deep industry insights gained from decades of executive leadership at a global media and marketing conglomerate comprising communications, hospitality and entertainment businesses. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of Metromedia, Inc. and was the architect of the leveraged buyout which took Metromedia, Inc. private. As General Partner and Executive Vice President, he expanded Metromedia Company into various businesses, including fiber optics, Wi-Fi and long-distance communications, and brought these technologies to international markets. His extensive experience establishing and growing multiple public and private companies in diverse U.S. and international markets, including Metromedia International Group, Orion Pictures, AboveNet, and Big City Radio, also allowed him to develop expertise in corporate governance, talent development and succession planning.

Corporate & Charitable Leadership
Stu currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Shubert Organization and Foundation, The New York Racing Association, Brooklyn Law School, Spot On Networks Inc., and the Baruch College Fundemeritus. Previously, Stu served as Vice Chair of the Board of Orion Pictures Corporation and as Chair of Big City Radio Inc. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of AboveNet, Inc., Conair Corporation, Sepsis Alliance, Central Park Conservancy, Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, Overcoming Obstacles, University of Scranton, Park East Synagogue, and Beth Israel Hospital.
Stu has received honorary degrees from the University of Scranton, Baruch College, and Brooklyn Law School. He has also been honored by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, Brooklyn Law School, Park East Synagogue, The Jerusalem Fund, Overcoming Obstacles, Back to Brooklyn Foundation, and the Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst. He was inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame in 2022.
Personal & Educational Background
Stu earned a Master’s in Law in Taxation from New York University School of Law, a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Baruch College.
Together with his late wife, Anita, Stu created Anstu Stable in 1992. He campaigned race-winning horses including Balto Star, Friendly Island, Irving’s Girl, Ibboyee and Mellow Roll and was named Small Breeder of The Year in 2001.
