When it comes to honoring and protecting our oceans, Carnival Corporation & plc cruise lines dove in headfirst! With heart, imagination and a splash of eco-innovation, our 360,000 team members worldwide transformed World Oceans Day into a global celebration of action.
Coastal Cleanups with a Cause
From Southampton to Mahogany Bay to Costa Maya, team members rolled up their sleeves and hit the sand for beach cleanups. These efforts weren’t just about picking up litter – they were about restoring beauty, protecting ecosystems and showing love for the shorelines we visit. In Southampton, 38 Carnival UK team members cleared a total of 58 kilograms (≈128 pounds) of trash.
At Port Canaveral, Carnival Cruise Line took that commitment a step further. While celebrating 35 years of sailing from the port, the team made a lasting impact by donating a brand-new hybrid pickup truck to Keep Brevard Beautiful. This eco-friendly vehicle will support ongoing cleanup efforts across Central Florida’s waterways – extending the reach of our coastal care and proving that our dedication to the planet doesn’t stop at the ocean.
Partnerships That Protect
Carnival UK spotlighted its nearly decade-long partnership with ORCA, a marine conservation charity dedicated to protecting whales, dolphins and other marine life. From crew training to onboard education and research, Cunard and P&O Cruises are casting a wide net for marine conservation.
Floating Classrooms & Ocean Heroes
In Ensenada, Carnival Firenze became a floating classroom, welcoming teachers aboard for hands-on sustainability demos – from recycling to food biodigesters. Meanwhile, Costa Crociere Foundation launched the “Guardians of the Sea” program aboard Costa Toscana. Think “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but with pint-sized eco-heroes learning how to protect our blue planet.
Celebration Meets Education
Onboard festivities brought the spirit of World Oceans Day to life with cake-cutting ceremonies, raffles and trivia competitions. Environmental officers joined the fun, sharing their knowledge and turning entertainment into education. Princess Cruises teams added their own sparkle, taking the celebration to social media and spreading waves of eco-awareness across the digital sea.
