Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein Talks Leadership, Collaboration and the Future of Cruising with CLIA’s Bud Darr
With his two-year chairmanship of the Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) Global Executive Committee officially underway, Carnival Corporation & plc CEO Josh Weinstein sat down with Bud Darr, CLIA President & CEO, for a lively conversation about the future of the cruise industry. During the one-hour CEO Series webinar, the two leaders covered a wide range of topics, including sustainable tourism, health and safety, decarbonization and the importance of a unified industry voice on key policy matters.
Josh emphasized the importance of continuity and momentum as he begins his CLIA chairmanship, pointing to collaboration as essential to navigating the industry’s most complex challenges. He stressed a pragmatic, solutions driven mindset – particularly on decarbonization – focused on making measurable progress today by reducing fuel use, while working collectively to enable future fuels and technologies at scale.
In addition to industrywide challenges, Josh also pointed to the fundamentals driving cruising’s continued momentum. He highlighted cruising’s strong value proposition, noting that it continues to offer a compelling value compared to land based vacation alternatives.
The conversation also offered a candid look at Josh’s leadership philosophy and Carnival Corporation’s portfolio strategy, with a focus on differentiating its eight world‑class cruise lines, enhancing guest experiences and creating long‑term shareholder value. Those principles, Josh noted, extend beyond Carnival Corporation, reinforcing the importance of CLIA as a platform for collective industry engagement, advocacy and progress as cruising continues to responsibly expand its global footprint.
