Cruise Industry Veteran Arkinstall Appointed Senior Vice President - Maritime Affairs At Carnival Corp. & plc

MIAMI, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Charles Arkinstall, a 21-year veteran of P&O Princess Cruises, has been named senior vice president of maritime affairs for Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE: CCL;LSE) (NYSE: CUK), the world's largest cruise operator.

In this capacity, Arkinstall will head up the newly created corporate maritime affairs department, responsible for establishing and promoting fleetwide safety, health and security policies for Carnival Corporation & plc's 13 global cruise brands. He will also work closely with the company's environmental compliance division in developing corporate-wide environmental policies.

Arkinstall will also serve as Carnival Corporation & plc's representative for various cruise industry organizations and act as a liaison with the company's brands regarding new regulations and developments related to safety, health and security.

Arkinstall will be based in Southampton, England, and report directly to Carnival Corporation & plc's Vice Chairman Howard Frank.

Previously, Arkinstall had overall responsibility for P&O Princess Cruises' multi-billion-dollar newbuilding program, a position he held since 1982. In addition to overseeing the design and construction of P&O Princess Cruises' newbuilds, Arkinstall was responsible for establishing and maintaining fleetwide safety, health, environmental and security policies and standards, as well as technical operations.

A naval architect with more than 40 years of shipping and shipbuilding experience, Arkinstall earned his degree in naval architecture from England's University of Newcastle.

Arkinstall is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects in London, and a member of the general committee of Lloyds Register and the British Advisory Committee of the Registro Italiano Navale, an Italian ship classification society.
