Richard Brilliant

Chief Risk and Compliance Officer
Richard Brilliant is Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for Carnival Corporation & plc. Brilliant reports both to the company’s CEO and Boards of Directors.

Brilliant directs strategy for and drives a culture of compliance and integrity focused on complying with legal and statutory requirements, company policies and the highest ethical principles. He also leads the company’s globally integrated compliance program built upon compliance risk, innovative compliance training, robust investigations, open communications and continuous improvements. The ethics and compliance program involves the collective efforts of compliance leaders throughout the company’s operating lines, and its global workforce of shoreside and shipboard employees, and serves as a principal driver of advancing the company’s commitment to environmental performance, safety, health, security and overall compliance. Additionally, Brilliant has responsibility for administrative oversight of the internal audit and incident analysis functions for the company.

Named in May 2022 to his current role, which was expanded from Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer to Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, Brilliant previously served as Chief Audit Officer for the company, leading a large global team that provides audit and business process improvement services to the Boards and senior management related to financial, operational, compliance and strategic areas.

Since joining Carnival Corporation in 1994, Brilliant has led a wide range of audit and management advisory services for the organization. His accomplishments include implementing and leading the internal audit functions at several cruise brands, designing and implementing the Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 404 compliance program, facilitating the company’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework and participating in multiple special projects, including strategic initiatives and due diligence activities, and overseeing implementation of the first-ever incident investigation function as part of the company’s Health, Environmental, Safety & Security (HESS) corporate governance policy, with oversight from HESS Committees of the Boards of Directors.

Prior to Carnival Corporation, he began his career with Kenneth Leventhal & Company in its Hospitality Consulting Services Group, where he was responsible for performing feasibility studies and supporting various advisory services to real estate and hospitality industry clients and financial institutions.
