The future is taking up speed: AIDA Cruises receives innovative and world’s first LNG cruise ship AIDAnova
AIDA Cruises took receipt of itslatest ship AIDAnova from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg on December 12,2018.
The formal commissioning of thisinnovative prototype of a new generation of AIDA ships was attended by MichaelThamm, CEO Costa Group & Carnival Asia, Felix Eichhorn, President AIDACruises, Bernard Meyer and Tim Meyer, managing directors of Meyer Werft, CaptainBoris Becker and other guests of honor.
With AIDAnova, one of the mostinnovative new-builds with outstanding experiential worlds for its guests willbe going into service. It is furthermore the first cruise ship worldwide thatcan be operated with low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) both in port andat sea.
Felix Eichhorn, President AIDACruises, drew attention to the uniqueness of the prototype: "With hugeenthusiasm and creativity, we have brought together an extraordinary productvariety on AIDAnova. We are incredibly proud to be operating what is currentlythe world's most eco-friendly cruise ship, and we will be consistently pursuingthis path of continuous development."

The first guests will be welcomedaboard on Tenerife on December 19, 2018. They can look forward to a vast rangeof entirely new culinary and entertainment choices. In particular, the numberof service restaurants has been significantly expanded. The Ocean's - thespecialty restaurant for fish and seafood – is but only one example. In the newChurrascaria Steakhouse, grilled meat from the spit is served.
For the perfect Asian diningexperience, the range of sushi offers and teppanyaki dishes have been expandedand new hot pots and a tandoori area have been added. For the perfect Asiandining experience, the East Restaurant has been expanded to include a Tandooriarea. New is also the Yachtclub Restaurant, which offers light seasonal cuisineand international specialties in a maritime flair, and the Street Food Mile, whereyou can enjoy a snack from currywurst, kebab or sandwiches from early morninguntil after midnight.
At the new Time MachineRestaurant, guests enter a world full of wonders and surprises. Over afantastic time-traveling dinner, the lines between reality and fantasy blur.Everything moves and rotates; waiters turn into magicians as they serve adelicious multi-course menu.
Studio X stands for innovativeentertainment with exciting formats of every kind of TV entertainment. Themodern recording studio aboard AIDAnova is the first TV studio at sea thatproduces and broadcasts live on a daily basis. The multipurpose room is thusone of AIDAnova's highlights. The guests attend the broadcasts live, enjoying bothwell-known TV formats, and some TV shows specially developed for AIDAnova.
The popular Theatrium featuresthe first 360-degree stage with more than 10 LED walls and a "MagicTunnel" for spectacular artist appearances.
The Four Elements activity areawith ropes course and water slides, and the Beach Club for relaxation are, ofcourse, also found aboard AIDAnova. Apart from that, the ship features awellness area of around 3,500 square meters, an outdoor gym, 17 restaurants and17 bars. One of the many highlights are the 21 different cabin variants. From thepenthouse suite over two decks to spacious family cabins or comfortable singlecabins, every guest has the opportunity to feel at home in their own individualway at sea.
The entire interior of AIDAnovaimpresses with its innovative design. The modern architecture gives a light andairy feeling to the rooms. The nuanced color compositions give AIDAnovaelegance and the refined structures provide surprising effects.
AIDAnova is equipped withstate-of-the-art technology for eco-friendly travel. AIDA Cruises alreadystarted to invest in liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a propulsion technologymore than ten years ago. Emissions of particulate matter and sulfur oxides arealmost completely eliminated. Nitrogen oxides and CO2 emissions aresustainably reduced. In 2021 and 2023, two additional ships from this new AIDAgeneration will join the AIDA fleet. In less than five years, more than half ofall AIDA guests will be traveling on board ships that are either fully orpartially powered with low-emission liquefied natural gas.
During her premiere season, frommid-December 2018 AIDAnova will be going on seven-day cruises around the islandworld of the Canaries and Madeira. The program takes in the fascinatingvolcanic landscapes of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, andthe Portuguese archipelago of Madeira.
Starting in the summer of 2019,AIDAnova will set course for Mediterranean destinations such as Mallorca,Barcelona, Rome, Florence, and Marseilles. Thus, the new cruise ship will offerthe two most popular routes of German guests - in the winter season the CanaryIslands and in the summer months the western Mediterranean.
