CSMARTRostock, AIDA Cruises's maritime simulation center, is the new partner of theEuropean Maritime Simulator Network (EMSN). The aim of this collaboration is tostudy the onshore-supported control of maritime transport, analogous to theinternational monitoring of air traffic in the aviation industry. The membersfrom a total of 10 countries include renowned research institutes such asFraunhofer CML.

“Withinthe network, maritime simulators from the various partner countries can beconnected up – this is globally unique so far,” states Burkhard Müller,Director of CSMART Rostock. “During regular training sessions, we will infuture simulate scenarios in which we can test onshore-supported monitoring andcontrolling of maritime transport. During a second phase, we will move on toreal-world tests on board ships,” Burkhard Müller explains further. The EuropeanMaritime Simulator Network is part of the Mona Lisa 2.0 research anddevelopment project. In this context, technologies and processes are beinginvestigated and developed to further improve the safety, efficiency, andenvironmental friendliness of the shipping industry.
