Costa Luminosa Rescues A Fish Carrier In The Aegean Sea: 11 People Saved
Genoa, 21 November 2018 - Costa Luminosa rescuedthe crew of a fish carrier, which was on fire off the Aegean Sea, saving elevenpeople onboard.
Around midnight yesterday, the ship of the Italian company, whichwas sailing south of the Peloponnese towards the port of Katakolon, received arequest for intervention from the Hellenic Coast Guard Joint Rescue CoordinationCenter of Piraeus to aid the fish carrier "Kilic 1", in seriousdistress due to a fire onboard.
Under the guidance of Captain Pietro Sinisi, Costa Luminosadeviated from the route to reach the boat. Despite the dense smoke coming outof the fish carrier and the adverse sea and weather conditions, with wind atthirty knots and 2-meter waves, rescue operations were successful. The eleven crewmemberswere recovered from the bow of Kilic 1 by a Costa Luminosa tender and thentranshipped on a cargo ship previously involved in operations by the GreekCoast Guard. They are all in good health.
Costa Luminosa later resumed the route towards Katakolon, one ofthe calls included in the one-week itinerary to discover Greece, Croatia andMontenegro, with departures from Venice and Bari, offered by the ship until theend of the year.
